When I thought about why I run, Jeremiah 17:7-8 came to mind. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” I love that picture of a tree planted by the water, establishing its roots deep and wide, thriving. Just as God intended. That’s my hope and prayer for the Pokot, and that is why I run. God created us to thrive. When a well goes in, people do just that. They thrive. Instead of trudging for hours or days, risking their lives for dirty, disease infested water, people can stay put and put down roots. Families are reunited. Babies are born healthy. And children grow up and into bright futures. Physical health is restored. Spiritual health is restored. Families are restored. Hopes and dreams and dignity are restored. And people thrive. Just as the God who loves them intended. It all starts with clean water, but the water is just the beginning. So that’s why I run. As we’re helping our Pokot friends to establish roots that are deep and wide, they are helping us to do the same. Thank you for being on this journey with us. I can’t think of a better group to thrive with.
