What activities qualify for an event grant?
If an event qualifies for a grant, the application link will be included on the registration form.
Who can apply?
Anyone who wants to attend the event but cannot afford the registration fee due to income limitations.
When is the deadline?
Applications must be submitted 7 days before the event.
How are the awards determined?
Awards are determined by applicant need and availability of funds. For larger grants, we use a standardized rubric that considers your income compared to your family size and your statement of need. This helps us make fair and consistent decisions.
Do I need to complete one application per child?
No, only 1 application per family is needed.
Why does Kensington sometimes ask for documentation?
To make sure that limited funds are given to families who need it most, we sometimes verify eligibility using standard income documentation. This also helps us to prioritize requests when the demand for help is high. If we need income documentation, we'll let you know.
What if I don’t submit the requested documentation?
We can’t begin reviewing your application until we receive documentation. For example, we sometimes request proof of identity (driver’s license or state ID) and ONE proof of income. We have 10 proof-of-income options to choose from including pay stubs from last 30 days, or most recent W-2, or a free/reduced lunch letter from the current school year, along with several other acceptable documents. If we need proof of identity and income documentation, we'll let you know.
How do I get the award?
Awards are given as a discount. You’ll receive a unique registration code to apply at checkout, and you’ll still need to complete your event registration.
Where does the money come from?
Generous Kensington donors contribute directly to the Event Grants fund.
My friend wants to pay for part or all of my registration. How do they do that?
Give your friend the link to our Event Grant Information page and tell them to select the event you would like to attend. Your friend will add your name and contact information and pay for everything in one transaction. After they checkout, you’ll be sent a unique registration code which you’ll use to complete your event registration.
I received a grant for a previous event. Can I submit another request for a new event?
Yes! You can submit a new request for a different event. When funds are limited, we may prioritize first time applicants, but returning applicants are always welcome to apply.
